I am from AK and trap on a refuge that requires I have a breakaway for moose on all snares. I currently use Thompson style locks with the cut in them as a release. It works fairly well. I have lost a few wolves however. And in the last several years there are getting to be other options such as heavier s hooks, ferrules, and shear pins in cam-locks. I am curious as to what any of you use, and how well your system has been working for you. Thanks for your time.
I went to the siniker 750 lbs break aways, I have not caught a wolf in them but I have caught lots of coyotes with no problems. They did thier job nicely on 1 dear a couple of moose and 1 horse a bunch of times, SOB had to jump his fence and come snoop out what ever I had set once I left lol.
Just to clarify, I am looking for experiences with the releases and wolves not moose. I know that a lot of it has to do with the anchor point and entanglement. I am just trying to improve the snares I use. Thanks.
I agree. Now with new owners at Thompson snare the prices have become more manageable and support wire is offered. The snare shop does not carry Thompson locks. I wish I had the time to make my own, but it is not affordable for me to spend the time. I am simply looking for different options and thought I would ask here. Thanks for your time White.
