Well today, we had a nice big boar coon again, and another one that pulled out. Both were in our cat sets. The one we got was a real nice fur. Thick as can be, and the leather was thick, almost perfect, and snow white. Just a little under a 4X size on the wood. Oh..... this is #90....10 more to go!!!! on the wood This is a last look at most of these furs, off to NAFA today for the upcoming sale. 32 coons, 41 rats, and 5 possums are going this time.

I am such a nerd. I never finished up the season post! Just don't seem right, now I gotta do it or it will drive me nuts! Jan. 20, 2011 Wow...... for around here, we got busted with a good winter storm! It snowed it's keester off yesterday and last night. I really didn't expect anything to have worked the sets. Until recently, we have been doing MUCH more scouting and looking for cat sign, then trapping. I'll start from a few days ago. 2 days ago, I came up to 2 snares I had placed in the same path that a couple cats appear to be taking. To my disappointment, A large cat had went through both snares as both were knocked down and pulled to the same side and the loops were drawn down to as small as a quarter. I figure the cat had put his head to the side of the loop somehow, the snares fired, and the cat's leg pulled the snare till it wouldn't pull anymore and he shook it off. The same day, in a nice brushy row, a rabbit had gotten in a set. I could see the fresh cat tracks come up the lane I had made from making and checking the set, then I could see where the cat had "played" with the caught bunny awhile before he jerked it out of the trap. Had another set 10 ft up the line, but no cat. He kept on going the other way as he had missed that set going by it on the outside. (the sets are in the middle of the row) I think the new snow will force him back to the center, if not, I will be makeing a set for him on the outside VERY soon. AS IF THAT IS NOT BAD ENOUGH..... I had set a couple sets under an old bridge where a couple cats have been getting on and off the creek ice. Fortunatly for me, I had a possum in the one set, and I could see where my cat had cut off short that night I'm guessing to avoid the stinking possum in my trap. I could see exactly how it did it. BUT...... Today was a new day, and russ and I went out to run. I had the first two snares i have already talked about, and then one more snare all alone on a small brushy ditch connecting 2 very brushy timber stands on a different property. We felt as the track we had cut was a single cat, but it turns out we were wrong. This morning we had a nice 23 lb tom cat, with a perfect neck catch. I'm no snare man, so I only use them if I have to, but this time it paid off. We could see where another cat had came with him, and then cut off and around to another string of brush i'm guessing because the tom was throwing a fit. I went back out a while ago and made a foot hold set for the female in the same spot. We will never catch all of them, but as good as we can tell we are dealing with 9 different cats. At another set area, a cat had come through, only on an upper trail in a wide funnel that it hadn't taken before...... we will be ready for next time. Anyways, here are some pics of my first snared cat. Sorry, no pics of him in the snare, just some good pics of him being held by me. Hope tommorow brings more of the Lords good graces!!!!

Jan. 23, 2011
Well unfortunatly, our day today was not a good one. We walked in to find that one of the cats we were after had gotten in one of the montana #3's and had escaped. I followed the tracks right to the set and found where it was in it for a short time, pulled out, and went to the near by outside edge of the timber. It's lover went on up the trail as if nothing had happend, and messed around another set and stepped everywhere but the pan. We were so depressed that we reset, tightened up the one set, and put 5 snares out, well before and after the spot where the tom got hit at. We then went to the other side of the mile section and tightened up 2 snares that have been there, and made sure the foot hold in that area was still good. The cats had not come through yet, so I know they were holed up in that section. Should see sign of them in a few days at most. We then went to go find more, and we scored some fresh sign. We found 2 areas that we trapped last year had cats on them. One had a tom and a female, the other looks like a tom. We put up several snares on the sign. I figure I might as well jack ALL the cats up in the area and make em trap shy! lol.[/quote]
