because my trapline is over 60 km away i never really had the option to go and prebait. It sure wouldn't hurt.

Sometimes, seems to help when you want to hit an area/population hard and move on. Baitpiles seem to work better for us then making sets and prebaiting them.

You know upon recollection, I guess I do a little pre baiting. A lot of times when its hard to tell where beaver are willing to come out on the banks of a creek, I will go in and in a stretch of creek i will place "bait sticks" with castor on them. In a day or two I will go back and the beavers will have the places they want to enter and exit around where the sticks were, beat down. Keeps me from having to move the set 3 ft up or down stream when I see they don't want to come onto the bank at the set placement I wrongfully had chosen! It also helps me weed out the inactive areas much easier!

I have always been a fan of pre baiting. Having said that on my new lines I only ask for trouble. If I bait early in my marten boxes or put out bait stations the Griz bears will find then. They really do a number on a marten box. On bait stations they will camp on them for as long as you keep adding to the station. They will even stay there into December as long as there is food. My preference is to wait till mid November when they have gone to bed to establish bait stations.

I am fairly lucky that way Trapp, I don't have much for G bears on my line, a few black bears but the den up early any way. I had a sow G bear charge me when I first bought my place so I thought I might mave some problems but I guess her and her cubb were just passin threw.
