I make mine 14-16 inches deep with spring slots cut to within 6 inches of the back as I use pan trigger traps placed within 4 inches of the bait at the back of the box. with this situation the marten is stationary with feet on the pan while feeding on the bait. This results in a suitcase catch on marten and a neck catch on fisher at the base of the skull.   |

Hi everyone, i'm new here.
bctomcat first time i see slots cut that far into the box and it stands to reason it works well, one question if i may, I see you shown a plywood box, myself i only use lumber and i'm afraid if i cut deeper the box would split after a while, I can always re-enforce the outside with more wood, is that what you do?

I the area I currently trap I get anywheres fro 12-20 per season. Ten years ago their were no marten on this line. They have been slowly moving in for reasons I do not understand but am I happy about it.

Very similar to a coon wood cubbie or bucket set. I think the trap sets a little farther in then we use for coons, but adjustments considered, very close. Nice!

There was a time there were no marten here , they slowly moved in and now trappers vary from 30 to 100 per season, 60 years ago there were no beavers either, lots of lynx back then..it wasn't uncommon for some one to bring in over a hundred in one trapping season and now almost nil, lucky if you get one.
