Here in Quebec you are allowed to hunt moose with a 243 or greater. I will use my trusty 270 with 140 or 150 g

Nice swamp donkey. My 270 has taken it's fair share, but my old 300 savage has taken more. I only got the 270 for little more oomph when I was guiding hunters that sometimes had trouble shooting where their rifle was aimed.

I like my 300 win mag for swampers, it works no mater what, near, far behind willow and one time threw a 6 inch popler tree. The moose was hinin his head behind a 6 inch popler and his lungs were behind a whole clump of popler, it was in a tiny little patch of trees in the middle of a oat field so I told my huntin partner I would shoot for the head threw the tree and if it tryed to make a get away he would be ready. moose droped at the shot and was stuck betwean 2 poplers, had to run home and get the power saw and cut him out lol. He was tasty and worth the extra effert lol

New one on me too, lol. Is a .243 really big enough? I always had the impression they were one tough critter and .30-30 size/performance cartridges were bare minimum at best? Are the bigger bored flinters enough for one? I'd love to tackle one with my .72 musket. Sorry for all the questions but Ive never got to deal with one of them before.

Use a good bullet and put in the lungs/hart and they go down just fine from a 243, I just like usin alittle more on them is all. Besides I realy like my 300 and the only critters I can realy justify usin it on is moose and elk so that is what I Do lol. A friend of mine shot his bull last year with a traditions in line 50 cal so I dont think a 72 will be under gunned.

Too many hunters try for head or neck shots, not a good idea on moose. A well placed shot in the engine room for a win,

What happens is many can shoot bulls eye from a bench or brace but when it comes to free hand,,its just not the same. Thats why its always better to pratice free hand to.

You can never target practice to much, we have a hundred yard rang in our back yard and it gets used plenty. I am also afirm beliver in usin a rest for every shot, especialy in the field.
