I made 4 Hay sets last year as we had lots of snow. I finally pulled all 4 of them after 4-5 days. I could not keep the set working cause the deer kept pawing it up and tripping the traps. Who knows, I may not have had them in a good place to start off. But I did put a dirt hole in the exact same spot as I had two of the Hay sets and caught two foxes this year. I did not try it at all this year. It may work, just not for me in my area.

You can't keep the hay set working if theres lots of deer around
Why its so popular its because its a winter set,The trap is not bedded a little hay under and a little over.

I checked nighrider, I do not have any photo's. It is really simple. Take two traps, stake them down (double stake) with each trap 180 degrees from the other, or straight across. Take a enough hay and set under the traps to keep them from freexing to the ground/snow. Put some bait in the middle, cover the traps completely (but lightly) with hay and add some of your favorite lure or fox urine. The theory is that K-9s have a tendacy to work a set in a circular pattern and eventually will step on one or the other traps while working the set. Good Luck

I like the hay set on hard packed skidoo trails.
