Hmmmmmm..... that is a tough call. Each have their challenges and special rewards. I love both and hope I never have to give either up! (sorry old yote ) I time the brunt of my trapping so the first part of season i water trap, then after it starts getting really nasty i switch to land trapping. Mainly coons, then bobcats. Around here I can catch more $ worth of coons then cats when they are running hard, given the same time frame. BUT once the coon start laying up, the $ amount reverses to where trapping cats becomes more profitable. If i absolutely had to shoose I would pick land, because i can still catch coons in land sets pretty consistently. I'd be willing to bet though that my rat and beaver numbers would look like heck though!

I think land trappin, but that is couse I only get a short window in the fall to water trap and then in the spring till the beavers and rats get to chewin on each other. Water season opens for rats and beavers on Oct 15 mink I think is nov 1or 15 I can't remember, but buy the 1 of Nov my water is very often frozen over. The land line pays better with martin, weasels, lynx and wolf's. But I would never stop trappin water or land.

I have a great passion for both,i have 15 days of beaver before marten & fisher season opens,i need the beaver for bait. We have a very good quality beaver and i average $ 20 with the bad fur prices.but marten & fisher is where i make my money.

I would have to say land because I can catch the critters I am after for the most part there. Beavers and rats would be a little tougher tuffer though.
