Well finally getting to hang some snares! I prebaited several sites around the house a month ago and now I get to hang some snares. I was having to add bait every second day because it was gone so I hope they are still hungry.

Not allowed any thing but rams. I never even got one site set. Had all three boys and they were anxious to look for some jack rabbits to shoot and not watch me set snares. I made a few sets at one place. I will get out boxing day and put in a full shift. Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!

Well got out yesterday and finished setting up the bait that i only got three snares at set the other three. Set up another site with six rams. Off this a.m to set up a couple more. I have run into a bit of a bait shortage with the holidays and being gone for a month I am out of the loop! Lol. A neighbor has a crippled cow for me but he is busy working to put her down so I will have to wait. Besides I am a bit lazy and preffer butcher scraps , they are not so heavy and messy . I will probally take her front shoulders and head to other sites and set up on her. It is handy that she is in a pasture a half mile from my favorite spot for snares so she will help me stack up a few. It is two hours till sun rise but I will head out to the shop and pre-rig up my rams with the snare support and anchor chain to save time .

Well I got 5 baits out with 30 snares. two more baits to get out. Going to put out a dozen weasel boxes next. It is great to be out after nearly two months of no trapping. The weather is great with no snow but I always seem to have more problems with mice shaving my coyotes with no snow.

Went out and tried a little calling with all three boys this morning. Wasn't what I planned but once the word was out there was no way me and the oldest were getting out of the yard alone! The first spot we got a small ugly coyote that looked like he laid in one spot to long and the mice shaved the hair off his back! The next spot it was snowing pretty good when we were sneeking over the hill into the valley and we kicked up a pair of yotes.Well I thought it was such a nice scene that we mind as well give a few blows anyways and both coyotes came back. I stretched the big male at about 75 yards and the female stopped at about 250 to see were her mate was and I hit her also. the female jumped and yelped for a minute and was gone. She ran into some of the thickest thorn bushes you could imagine and we never did find her. We stopped at a bait site that was only a 1/4 mile away to wire up a couple pig heads and we had a nice big male in there also. We are back into the fur! Set up the place were the cow is supposed to go but he got tied up so she is still on the hoof. Kind of funny to have a place all set up and no bait there! Maybe the farmer will get time tommorow.
