Yeah, I have grown quite fond of beaver meat. I can't get the wussies at work to eat it but my kids will! I do like trapping them, but usually only go after them after the regular season closes as beaver season goes an additional month or so. Tanning them may very well be a better option as the furs are picked up before the season closes to go to NAFA.

Handy fur to have around for your own use also. We trap the majority of ours after our regular season ends mid January. Under ice trapping is challenging but fun. Snares and footholds are our preference anymore under the ice. We've just about retired our 330's and the few 280's we have. Ever make ground meat beaver jerky Mohawk? Its pretty good and I bet those wussies would eat it up till they found out what it was.

They interrogate me pretty well before they eat anything that I bring in. One of them seems to understand my thought process though and said that I would be the last one of "us" to starve! He is right! I don't consider myself one that could actually head out with the family and live off of the land with a pocket knife but we should be able to do ok with the toys I have if need be. ;D I think that jerky idea is a great one though, Catmando has made some excellent goose jerky out of both whole muscle meat and ground meat both. I have made my share of jerky and summer sausage out of deer and turkey. We eat beaver "roast" and grilled bobcat and muskrat. I think a person can eat just about anything he puts his mind to if it is done according to the designed method. Obviously grinner in a crock pot isn't the way to go, eh? ;D ;D ;D

Lol, I wouldnt suggest grinner n taters in a crockpot but to each his own, lol. Most wild game can be ground up and the older specimens are tailor made for it. Ground groundhog(say that one 20 times fast) is good in chilli or any burger recipes, jerky etc.
