I always tie off to a small tree, tree root and rarely a cable stake. I use #11 wire. I learned the hard way about using smaller ga wire by running through the woods after a Red Fox that was wearing a 220. I finally caught him. Double #14 will not always hold a fox

I use rebar wire doubled to tie my conibears with. Fuzz last year my brother in law lost 6 lynx due to having his trap tied to his marten box. Better to tie off to something like the tree your box is on. You never know what will come along.

Herewith picture of conibear quick attacment that I use. Just staple the cable loop or wrap around leaning pole, limb or tree if long enough. Trap is easily sliped on and off with the tee bar attachment. I learned this from new forum member trapp a couple of years ago. Goes to show you can teach old dogs new tricks.

"I use a cable loop with a S link, "
Hey white, could you please post a pic? Thanks.
I am fed up with wire and trying to cut down on the use of it. I lost 2 lynx and a few beaver through the years because of wire. It was my fault, it was cheap wire and I overtightened it. I have to use some wire of course, just looking for something that's more re-usable year to year. I end up with a big eagle nest of rusty wire to clean up in the spring.

Hello wolf; I use any size cable 1/16 and larger from salvageable parts of used coyote/wolf snares. The "T's are made out of wire cloths hangers or the wifes old wire flower/tomato supports.
