Well it's almost that time of year again when we all head to the bush. Has been a busy summer for me with house Reno's. We did manage to get in a few fishing days and a little time at the cabin. Still I have so much more to do before the start of trapping. Have more trail to clear and go through all my traps and repair them. Have to make a pile more wolf and fox snares and dye everything. How about the rest of you, are you ready or just like me?

Been busy also between fire patrols. Work three days 4 off to work on trapping stuff. My major project right now is rebuilding my utility trailer to haul my new Rhino side by side and new Skandic Ace 600 with 20 inch track when I get it this fall.
Other major project is a metal roof for the cabin. ( beginning of October) lots of lynx cubbies / pens to make. Have 265 new lynx snares made and 45 new wolf snares. Also need to make more marten boxes.
Headed out fishing until Oct 1 and will make another 100 wolf snares while out.
Then its out to the bush, hair straight back, getting ready. Oh and we have a Local workshop at my place on October 5th.

Been fixing the triggers on beaver traps, making snares, building boxes Never got out to the cabin yet, going to be a lot of blow downs to cut. Scout some beaver when I go for moose. Good luck everyone.

I have had a busy summer also with work and we had a seasonal site at the provincial park. Lately every minute I can sneak out I have been making 3 dozen wooden rat stretchers. I was told they prefer them and I always feel the wire ones are to big for the kits and to small and not stiff enough for the real big ones. Got myself a j clip pliers and a set of hog ring pliers over the summer so I will rebuild my sub traps also. I also cut up enough tin funnels to use up the rest of my one by one mesh. I think it will give me 6 more subs. If I can all of them in fresh spots I will need all them new stretchers! Lol.

I am starting to panic, between work and bow hunting not much time left to get ready. Have almost all my traps ready, need to do some work at my camp. Have my fish bait ready to go for mink, bought two more freezers looking for one more. Lined up someone to board my beaver this year, still need to make more stretchers for otter, fisher, and raccoon. Big plans this year. Hope everyone has a good season. Jim

Sounds like everyone is in the same boat.... I have a fair bit done, but lots remains. I had grandiose aspirations this year but already just in the planning stage I can see I'm going to have to scale back a bit. The wife is back to work after maternity leave now. That makes it hard to schedule trips to the line around here shifts. But I plan to go as hard as i can or die trying. I may have to take my 1 and 4 year old daughters to the line with me a few times..... I have a feeling I will be checking a lot of traps with a flashlight this year. I have settled on a design for my temporary marten sets and built 2 dozen of them. They should be the cats meow for exploring new sections of my line without committing to hauling boxes in. I will try to get some pics up shortly. Finished insulation, vapor barrier and interior sheeting of my fur shed. Should be able to heat it with half the wood this year. I have gone through all my traps and repaired them and dipped the ones that needed it. Made 150 fox/lynx snares. Still need to buy a dozen 120s. Lure is bought. I still have to fix the chimney flashing on my camp, build some 220 boxes, haul a bunch of mink boxes out. Next years wood is bucked but needs to be split. I still need to do the interior sheeting in my camp. I hauled it all in there this summer but the walleye fishing was too good to get it installed. ;D Snares need boiled yet also..... maybe I should be panicking.....

You always have good pics with stories to go along with them. I did get my new Rhino, back in March. I drove it from the street into my shop and there it has sat since. The width has been measured daily in hopes that it will fit into my trailer. Will be starting my Trapper Ron Stuff thread and will have some pictures. Jim after seeing your marten boxes I have ideas for a "new" design. You can never have enough marten boxes.

Glad to see everyone is behind the eight ball like myself. This up coming weekend is our chicken shoot and trap dye/ boil and snare make weekend for our local trappers. All free of charge. Just appreciation for all the hard work our members do over the winter months with our many events that we hold with the high school and our trappers work shop and dinner. The following weekend is our regular trappers fall meeting so that has taken up 2 weeks of my time for other pressing matters. Wife still wants some fresh duck so have to plan a couple days of that. Right now i'm in a desperate mode to get rid of so many deer in my back yard. Have had deer problems since later part of June. They have become so aggressive that they have run me onto my back deck. Few weeks ago they kicked my retriever which has resulted in the dog just starting to walk again. The other day have had them with in 20 feet and will not run. The mnr will do nothing nor the town police. Since our bow season has opened September 1st I went and borrowed a cross bow from my niece and went and bought two deer tags today. I have a few more friends that went and bought some also. Since I own 2 acres of land in town limits I can legally harvest the deer with a bow. After that I still have my traps to go through and repair as well as still clear some more trail. Will I make the dead line, most likely. But every year it seems to longer and longer.

and the biggest one a camp to build on my northern line Your pretty ambitious... I started building mine a year ago july and I'm still working on it... ;D Greg my hats off to you,I used to take my kids on the trapline to it's no easy task. The oldest was just getting borderline useful too....well maybe not usefull but she at least wasn't slowing me down. Now with the 1 year old added in i guess I'm back to throwing stones and building snowmen along the line as we go..... ;D

I use to take the triplets out with me on one of my skidoo runs in the winter had a sled that I pulled kind of like a dog musher rig. The girls would ride in the sled and the boy would ride the back. One time he fell off and I drove about half a km before I noticed or heard the girls yelling at me. Once I stopped it was not long before Tyler came running up the trail crying. He never did falloff the sled after that. Jim
