I use a lot of chunked up carp meat, works pretty good on coons and DEADLY on grinners! (Happy Fuzz?) I also use a little sun rendered fish oil from carp. I am thinking about getting some dairy mix (some call it sweet feed), it has some cracked corn, alfalfa pellets and molasses in it (and other stuff) and adding a little fish oil or crawfish oil to it to deter the deer from sticking their heads in my buckets. The way coons go after cow chow it should work pretty well.

canned sardines or jack mackerel, mixed with sun rendard fish oil, castor, honey, and add a little glycerine oil . Adding muskrat glands or white musk is also a nice flare to it.

Fruit baits if we're trapping near farmbuildings etc like apples, grapes, leftovers from canning etc work great and keep the cats etc away pretty good. Fish, crawdads or mussels are good for when we're out away from "civilization". Fish oil is hard to beat. Chunked rough fish or scraps from our setlines work good too. We prefer lure over bait alot though but sometimes mix the two but never use bait only for coons anymore. Fresh water mussel meat is a good change up and either fresh or tainted(an odor you have to experience to believe!). Im a firm believer in fish oil though and recommend it to any beginning trappers that will listen. If you make your own its really cheap and can be used in the set itself and as a trailing bait etc too. We trapped alot of coons with sardines as kids. Burnt/scalded honey is a good draw for coons too. We make a bait/lure with maple syrup that draws coons and rats very well, it is made from things in almost every kitchen. One of our favorite sets as kids was a carp, gar etc carcass staked down with several footholds set around it. If it has a way to direct coons etc into it from certain spots with barriers of brush, rock etcso the traps can be set 1'-2' from the carcass it works better. Probably not legal everywhere anymore and illegal on land here now but it worked for us30 years ago.
