Heres one we still use on occasion, dig a trench the length and width of a skunk carcass. You want the carcass just under 1/2" or so of dirt and I like to leave the tip of the tail sticking out if it still is furred, not much 2" or so. You can use 1 or 2 traps at this set. Either make a V with 2 chunks of old tree limbs 6"+ high or/and little brush etc and set 1 trap at the opening of the V. To use 2 traps place brush or tree limbs on each side of the bait/trench and set 1 trap on each end of the opening. I use this set on occasion and prefer drags. Thats up to you though. Little fox urine or lure helps but dont get any on the trap beds. Reds and yotes work this set but greys seem to work it a little better?

I first read of a set very similar to this one when I was about 11 or 12 yrs. old. I am not sure but I think I found it in fur fish and games Harding historical book, "the trappers companion." Great set according to the old timers.

Gramps swore by this set for fox. Yep its an old one. Ive added many a pelt to the boards because of it. I followed my uncle and cousin one year on one farm and took 2 reds two days in a row with 6 of these sets just a few days after they moved on. Uncle wasnt happy, reds were over $100 each that year, lol. I like this set and other "odd" ones in areas that have been hammered with dirtholes for decades. Even a standard simple "scentpost" set will outproduce dirtholes in some areas.
