I didn't put them there, but my Montana's have 3, one being the j hook in the frame, then one at the center of the chain and one at the end. It is a short (12"?) chain and I haven't used long chains with drags on them or I would have at least a couple more.

I like 2 or 3, If I am settin in dry tall grass I make sure I use a trap with 3 as they seam to have a tallent for winding this straw grass around the chain.

3 minimum whether 3'-6' drag chain or 6" or so chain for solid staking. On the 6 footers theres the Jhook and 2 more before the one on the chain end so one every 2 feet at least?
