Heres another simple rat/coon/so so beaver lure/bait if anyones interested, 4 oz vanilla extract(imitations ok and cheaper, up to you), 4 oz maple syrup(cheap is ok),4 tablespoons of Crisco or 2 tablespoons of lard. Warm all 3 ingredients and let cool. Optional for rat or beaver is 1 oz of preserved/tinctured rat glands or 1 oz beaver castor if made for beaver. Makes a real sticky/globby lure. Half a Qtip dabbed in and out is plenty and will stay at a set saving on the need to relure often. Good lure for a fake or real rat slide, being exposed it will still last longer then thinner lures. It has some attraction to beaver espescialy with the castor so if an area has alot of beaver it may not be the best rat lure. Had a guy mix a batch and it wouldnt set up so he stirred in Crisco till it solidified more. Had one guy mix this last spring and he sent me a message first night out he caught rats on it, more then he had caught previous with other baits.
