We headed out Thursday for a little weekend getaway to Omaha Nebraska. Had a good time despite the heat, not much cooler there than it was here if any. Got there Thursday afternoon and just kicked around town, found Scheels (didn't tell the wife what it was until we were there ). Friday we headed to the zoo and they let us all out. Just as well, they couldn't afford another carnivore anyway, especially the way I am liking that cat meat. Enough crap, here comes the pics (I took 327 pics, not all of them are posted) ;D :
Gorriler
Beautiful White Tiger
Monkeys on the loose
I really like this bird, my old high school colors
Very active bobcat lookin cat
Bubba Shark in the walk through aquarium
Skyfari
Can't go to the zoo without riding the train, eh?
Saturday we found Freedom Park, home of the ship called "The Hazard" which served as a mine sweeper in WWII
Ships specs
Ships Guns
A WWII Submarine
If I had a way to haul it home I would have had a new anchor for my jon boat
Then off to the riverboat cruise
This bridge only goes 1/2 way across the Missouri river
This is the other 1/2 that rotates to meet up with the first 1/2
Since 911, there has been a plan developed to put this bridge back into service as a backup in case of a terrorist attack on Omaha. An interesting fact was that a flood in the '50's crested above the deck of the bridge, and at that time the river was 5 miles wide.
Then on the way back home I had to stop to take a pic of this irrigation ditch, they really had my attention going up there because if there was water in them in the middle of August then there may very well be a rat population in them. There were LOTS of these ditches we went over, some were dry, most had water. I guess I am fascinated by them because we don't have them in eastern Ks, although they are common in central and western parts of the state. I have never looked at them with trapping in mind though.
