What do you guys suggest that i use to make the pan for these rat traps, i see wire mesh being used as well what looks like plastic. Any other materials that some one uses?

I used piece of a vinyl vertical blind to make some pans. I had a broken one lying around and I cut it up.

Corrugated plastic ( political / realtor signs) and waxed carboard works well also.

gth , the reason for the wooden dowel was to some how lock the lid down just in case i caught a mink and it rolled the box over and the lid popped open then he could run away with the trap. Just an experiment, maybe it will be not so good. I,m new to this so live and learn.

Question, do you think setting the boxes on the ground is better or worse than setting them in a tree or on a running pole at a marten set? I am asking because of non target catches setting off the trap. Jim

I have found that the mice will find it no matter were you put it lol, just reset and add bait more often. The mice will often clime up in my martin boxs and eat all the bait no mater how high in the tree the are hung, determind little buggers.

Weasel boxes on the the ground will catch more weasels than elevated boxes, but will attract more mice & voles than elevated boxes, I think the best thing to do is set 2 boxes per location,
