You bet they can, the very first coyote I caught was in a victor #4 long spring. You just nead a bigger trap bedto fit the trap. Ones the ground starts freazen some like the ls better as only one side of your spring can feaze to the ground.

I just got some #3's and #4's this summer and am hoping that they can be used at dirtholes! I really like the "tradition" behind that style of trap and can't wait to mix them in with the coilsprings this coming season. I have read a book or 2 that said that the dls traps are too slow, but I have to wonder if that's true or not. Some things I just have to find out myself. I know that there are a lot of critters to the ol longspring trap's credit over the years.

At one time all we had was long spring traps, they work but require a bigger trap bed. I still use LS traps at dirt holes.

I'd be willing to bet if longsprings are slower then coils it aint by much. Actually I'd put a little money on DLS being faster cause Ive been bit too many times by DLS's but few coils could get me. We still use longsprings on land and no.2DLS is our favorite after the ground freezes and the snow piles up for the same reasons stated above by Fuzz.

Yeah, I can't tell that they are slower either. The jaw spread seems a little less but the springs kind of lock up at the top of their range. Near as I can tell I love em. This is especially true in the little #11's for coons.

If there is a difference in speed between the long spring & coil it would be hard to measure.

When I first started trappin all I wanted was new coil springs, but I am startin to see more and more places for long springs on my line. I have a few good ones and am keepin an eye out for more. They still work just like they used too.

Hmmmmmm. I guess I am narrow minded, so I won't comment on what my feelings are on this subject.
