This question gets people on the preditor huntin web sites going crazy lol. I have a frien that shoots some every year with his 22 mag and he likes it, I have shot quite afew with my 17hmr and realy like it. with iether of them range is a factoctor cause niether one is a power house, but I don't hesitate on any coyote under 150 yards with the 17. I have done longer shots but they are some times iffy at best.

The 22mag & 17hmr,just don't pack the powder, like there bigger brother the 223 and 22-250, How ever at moderate shooting ranges the 22mag or 17hmr are all you need.

I usualy pack my 204 or 223 just because of that, as I see them quite often out in fields while runnun my line and shots can be realy long.

I have no experience with either, but I really have had great success with the ol 222.

I prefer the .22 magnum. Ammo cost for the .17 doesnt appeal to me either. Ive used both and seen both used extensively. Too many yotes escape from the .17's for me to consider it a serious yote round past 50 or so yards. Its a fine fox and smaller critter getter out to 80 or so but we limit ours to groundhogs, squirrels etc. You may be better off to go to a .22 Hornet, .223/5,56mm etc? The ,22 magnum isnt a powerhouse as stated before and rather a short range yote hunting arm.
