Pocket sets, PVC/tile and tinfish sets. Location is important with mink. Set we used as kids was a performer for us. Small pool either hand dug or natural beside the river or creek. Stake a live carp/bluegill etc in the middle in about 8" of water or a frozen whole one. Not tainted fish. We built up at least one if not two or three mounds in the water around it and for the mink or fox to use as stepping stones and bedded a trap on each under water. Back when fox and mink were preferred targets and coons werent this was a producer. Mink dont like to travel off their given path too often so this set along a waterway works great. Made in a little current along the waters edge to give the fish some movement/life is awesome and on a bend or curve you can get at least two if not three traps on it. Good lure will outperform bait majority of the time. Russ Carman mink lures and coon no.2 are our old standby's. We've taken well into double digits many seasons on those lures. Crawdads, mice, birds, fish/minnows have all worked for us also. Small, fast trap setup as a drowner will pay dividends. My preference, no.11 on a 3'+chain(I dont like wire) staked deep. No.1 coils, 1.5 coils, no.1 SLS(modified), no.1 1/2 SLS(modified) have all caught mink for us and did a good job also. We make a barricade set where we block off a small creek, stream/ditch etc with a conibear in the middle and that adds a few mink hides each year.
