Well i came up with what I think will work for weasel boxes. They are empty welding rod tins. They are around 5 x5 inches square and 15 inches long. They are light and I started started collecting them on the last job and have 10 already.{I am a pipeline welder] With work being so busy I should have no problem getting another ten by the time the weasels are white . I am thinking of just wireing a piece of plywood with the hole in the front and punching some hole in the back to let the scent out. I tryed a rat trap in one and it had all the room required to fire so I think it will work. Do you think there would be a problem with the weasel not wanting to walk on the tin floor? Or the wesel freezing to the tin once caught? I have never used the rat traps on them before but am thinking that most of him will be in the trap.

As long as your entry hole is made of wood every thing should be fine, keep your hole from 1 1/2 to 2 inches, Will the weasel freeze to the tin?? like you say most of it will be in the trap anyway. You will have to show us some pics of your box in action.

Would a V notch, two inches on top,two inches high work for a hole. I don't have a hole saw and a v is easy. I am to cheep to spend the 17 dollars for one in town. I don't think the weasels would mind?

ya I have a jig saw bt my 10 year old finds it hard to navigate a circle with it so the v notch was some thing he could do with the scroll saw. I have been promising him we would make weasel boxes all summer and now with these rod tins there is very little work to them. With the v he gets a little hands on. The proto type has a v notch with wire holding the front on threw a couple holes on th sides. Seems we will just have to undo one wire to open it and the other acts as a hinge. O and we put holes in the bottom of them all by stacking them up and the boy shooting them through the bottom with some #6 shot out of his 410. Fisst time he shot it so he had a blast once he learned to hold it tight. The first one caught him by surprise. LoL
