i use 1/8 cable 7x7 soft with cam lock. Snares are 8 and 10 footers. The reason for 7x7 is that it drops quicker than 1x19 stiff cable. Everybody has their own preference.on wire. Solid anchor to the tree using the snare itself .Over the years have found that 3/32 wire would not hold a wolf for me so switched to 1/8 and was very successful with that. This year i'm experimenting with killer springs on the snare. I like plain and simple to many moving parts on a snare for a wolf not a good idea but will give it a try.

For wolf I use a 10-12 foot snare with a midline swival to a tie end of whatever suitable used cable is available. The killing end of the snare is a loaded 5/64, 1X19 cable with a toothed cam-loc or amberg lock, both with a kill spring. This year I am testing some micro locks, with a kill spring, which I have been told are very effective.

I am also going to put the micro locks to the test.

Do you guys have specfic height above the ground for your snares? There seems to be more and more wolves around here lately and would like to try my hand at snaring a couple, I never caught a wolf before.
