I want to catch a wolf,,what do i need in snares & traps. Thanks. Like white said, snares are a lot cheaper and more easier to catch a wolf than a leg hold.

snares are cheaper, but will do more pelt damage.. as long as you understand the pay off.

Wolf traps are expensive but you can find some of them(MB 750) that are quite a bit cheaper than say the Alaska #9. The MB won't come up through as much snow or crust as the #9 but will hold a wolf. If you take a short cut and use a large jaw spread non wolf trap there is a good chance you will only educate the wolf and make it much harder to catch him again. Also a good chance of educating the pack. Snares are much faster, cheaper, and are almost always working in any weather. However you can also educate wolves here by hanging dirty snares, leaving a lot of sign when setting or setting your loop to low or to big and foot or body snaring. Snares will also catch non targets especially once they are knocked down by moose, deer, etc. An excellent source of info is the Alaskan wolf trapping manual. Here is the link. www.alaskatrappers.org/handbook.html#ATA_Wolf_Trapping_ManualIn my opinion the video as well as the Trepus video don't come close to the info in the manual.

nooksack The Paul Trepus videos are more ine line with the sets we would be using down here if the wolves ever get delisted. I have the ATA trapping video. Didn't find it very informative. Going to have to check out the ATA manaul. Thanks for the Info.

I have watched the treppis vidio and have had the pleashure of learnin from some of the trappers who taught him how to catch wolfs. He is good at catchin wolfs but is alittle full of him self for my likin and his vidios are more of a sales pitch for his guidin out fit than trappin. I have herd good things about the alaska manule.

I don't mean to be condescending about either video. I just believe there is a lot more useable information in the manual. The best way to learn anything is to digest all the information you can get your hands on.

I know this to be true!!! I will get everything I can lay my hands on about a certain animal and trapping it, before I begin. It has really made a difference for me, so I am sure it is the way to learn more about the wolf, and trapping them
