I usualy put in a hind leg from a beaver, or 2 front legs, then just refill as necissary, sounds like you have a healthy mouse population.

I like to use a big chunk of bait,,about a 3 or 4 pound piece, When first starting out thats what i do bigger chunk the better and than add as needed. If you have a good supply of beaver you can do that. If not you have to make what you have go round. When i flesh my beaver i put all the fleshings into milk cartons and freeze and than use later on. One milk carton will re-bait from 2 to 3 marten boxes.

I cut small pieces of beaver and place them directly on tree with wire mesh which is covered with bark on top. It keeps the birds away and make the fisher work for it. I don't put the bait to far from trap and it has worked for me.
I have also used cuby (square plastic pail) on a property where I know no one will be walking around. My other sets are pole sets and are not so obvious from distance, less chances of getting things stolen.
I used both muskrat and beaver as bait and it has worked for me. I also caught them with both lure and without lure.
I know many guys prefer sets on ground, however, to prevent capture of dogs and domestic cats and keep them up in trees.
