A lot of trappers worry about breaking the scent gland on mink when skinning them. After making the triangle cut around the anus, take hold of the anus, making about three small cuts around the anus, and scent gland and anus is removed. Don't throw it away as it can be used at a set as an attractant at your next set.

I love the smell of mink even thought they are in the skunk family or related anyhow. Use to love smelling that odor as I rounded the bend in a creek or on a river, I knew what was up ahead in the next set(s).

LOL, I like the smell of castor too, and even the smell of skunk if it is mellowed out some. I have yet to catch a mink of weasel though so I have no idea what they smell like. I got an idea I am in for a pleasant (?) surprise though when I come across one.

Cant speak for weasel as we dont have them here no matter what the DNR says. ;DI can't wait, I guess I am gonna have to try for 1 or 2, I don't think we have an incredible concentration of them but there are a few around to be had. I think we have one of the varieties of weasel too, but I dont think they turn white here. We get some snow, but most of the winter months here a white animal stands out too much, so it is probably better for an animal to stay brown for their own sake. I can't remember whether it is the short tail or long tail weasel that we are supposed to have but either one would be quite a prize to catch. Maybe one day. . .

Mohawk if you want a mink or two try Russ Carman's mink lures. I swear by them.

White, Our coons den up, but they aren't there for long periods, just through the worst part of a cold snap. I catch a few coons later in the season, mostly boars which is cool. If we catch coons too late the dang rubs/battle wounds start showing up. Our coons would crap if they had to go through a Canadian winter! Backwoodsman, I will have to try that. Are you using that at pocket sets in addition to a bait?
