what kind of welder do you need to laminate trap jaws & base plate.

I would suspect you could get away with using a small (130) or so amp wire welder with or without gas. But, it would not be of much use for welding anything thicker than a trap jaw. Ithink 1/4 inch is about the limit on thickness for the smaller wire welders. They definately should be a little cheaper in price.

Ya I bought a small wire fead from Princes Auto just for wieldin traps, think it was $250. Plugs right into the wall, never tryed it with shielding gas thow, would like to. Buy the better brands of wire thow I bought some cheep stuff and it dont wield worth a crap.

For doing trap mods, you can get a 70 amp buzzbox arc welder on sale at Princess Auto for $70 from time to time. They are a little finicky with the small rods but will work ok with practice.
The small wire feed welders will work as well. Some of the flux core wire spatters really bad and your weld looks like sparrow poop! lol. Good wire will work ok though. I run my mig with gas and will never go back to flux wire except in an emergency. The gas makes it so nice and smooth and easy to use.
Check the newspapers, garage sales, farm auctions, equipment auctions, or even Ebay.
