I want to build a jig that incorporates a hydralic jack. The jig will be used to put the bow in a base plate that hold the D ring. I have some ideas, A square big enough to incorproate the jack and the jig plate. My biggest questions is how heavy should the frame be? IE thickness of the steel for the frame.

I saw pix of one just like you are talkin about SS, they used a bunch of scrp iron to make it, it was ugly as all get out but I think that little 2 ton bottle jack would have crapped out a seel befor it brock the frame. I was thinkin of cuttin the top and sides out of a piece of 3/4 plate and just wieldin the up rights to a lenght of 4 inch channel. that would give ya a good base for the jack and should hold up to as many base plates as I will ever make.

Are you using 1/8 or 3/16. I can draw you up a jig.

White that is another question I have. A buddy bought some base plates, they are either 1/8 inch or 3/16ths not sure. But they are heavy. Is it necessary to use steel that thick to stiffen a base. I was origonally thinking 1/16th steel. Is 1/16 to light? Coyotes would be the biggest thing I would trap here.

I used 1/8 for the few I have made,so far. They may be alittle heavey but they worked good. I will try to draw a pix and put it up after dinner. my night so we are bbq burgers.

I would appreciate a posted picture of the jig when you get it made. I made a base plate with vice, hammer, but took some pounding. It turned out okay, but looking for an easier way to make them.

That kinda what I had in mind, but I thought about drilling a hole in the top frame and put the screw part of the jack though the hole and suspend the jack. I would use the bottom of the jack as a press. Off to search for scrap steel...
