As i think of the kid being new to trapping. I was thinking of what it would take to get started.
If you were to make up a starter kit [For someone new to trapping] What would you put in this package .

Traps, pan covers, stakes, Wire, Wire cutters, trapping shovel, lure and bait.
A lot would depend on what they kit was for, land trapping or water trapping or both.

Ya if it was for water some 1.5 for rats and mink, some 110's and a A #4 of one make or another with a drownin cable so he can tackel beavers too. The kit should also have a roll of wire, trappin trowl a jar od beaver lure and rat lure. And a few trap stakes.
For a land kit in my area the first thing I would put in it would be a few approved 120 for martin and a copie of a plan to make the box. Then a few victor rat traps with the big pans, for weasels also with plans to make thier own boxs. Next would be a roll os squirrel wire for snarrin squirrels. I wouldnt worrie about coyote trappin till they get thier feet wet on every thing else.

As a kid being new to trapping and what he would need, this would be the kit that i would give him. One good post knife for skinning and one beaver skinner knife. Traps would include 6 -1 1/2 foot holds for rats and mink and 1/2 dozen #2 long springs for fox and fisher and lynx. A couple 330 traps for beaver, a couple #4 long springs for beaver and 6 120 conibears and a couple 220,s. Roll of wire for securing traps and a few rat stretchers as well as weasel, mink fox and beaver board . One bottle of muskrat lure and beaver lure. One book on trapping and skinning technique. One box of 5/8 push pins. Beginners seem to target these animals first so in my opinion that would be sufficient to get them started. Fuzz what is a trapping trowl?, never heard of that terminology before.
