I am embarrased to say that I don't even own a single 330 or 280, or i guess a 220 either. I suck! :-[Foot holds and snares have been my go to beaver traps. :-/I will own some 330's before next season though!

72 330's and 18 280's. I had 13 330's stolen during deer season about 5 years ago from a number of different setups. I try to not have traps set in the farmland during deer season. Once freeze up comes I switch to snares. Took a long time to convince myself to use snares for beaver, now I won't do without.

puppa you will have to teach me or show me how to use snares for beaver. I have tried a couple times but with no success. A 330 through the ice no problem, but snare forget about it

Good informative post puppa. I have one piece of advice though re under ice snaring. Do not attach snares any closer than 20" below the ice. If snare is to close to the pond surface ice you risk the possibility of having the beaver freeze into the ice when it is caught after it extends the snare and floats up beneath the ice. A frozen in beaver involes a lot of work to retrieve.

Freeze ins can be a problem with snares at the top of the pole, you gotta be careful when opening up the hole. I haven't had it happen very many times, but it has happened. On some years I have had alot of conibear caught beavers freeze in as well, I used to hang my conibears in the runs with wire. I don't know why some years were worse than others.
