Cleaning traps with vinegar

I had some old and newer traps that I wanted to take down to the bare metal. I used vinegar. Here is how and the results.

Cheap white vinegar around here is $2.19 per gallon


I did not think to take any before photos of the worst traps, but this 2 year old MB is similar to what I wanted to clean off.


Note the scum on top of the vinegar after 48 hours


After soaking, but before rinsing


I left these in the bucket for 3-4 days and did not rinse, I am resoaking them cause they rusted more than I wanted them to.


24 hours after rinsing


Strain the vinegar after each batch of traps to remove the dirt and debris.



Rinse out the bucket


Rinse out your strainers (cloth) to reuse for the next batch

I have never used vinegar. but i see it works real well.

I tryed that for the first time this year too, it works realy good. The first traps I did were them RBG you sent me H, they are now painted flat black and look amazing, cant wait to see them wrapped around a squirrel lol

I found "cleaning vinegar" at the grocery store on Sunday. Its 10% and the same price.

I have a few 160's soaking in as we speak.

Vinegar also works great to take the outer finish off the metal on certain traps (bridgers for one) that otherwise won't rust properly to take a dye. We also use it to dull the finish for our snares.
