Well ust got back from Grande Cashe Alberta , and a archery elk hunt. Went with a friend who has hunted the area many times and had taken quite a few bulls out of that area with there rifles over the years but never had seen the real big herd bull. I have never hunted elk before let alone with my bow but it was the only time it worked to go for us so we give it a shot. I never even blew a bugle before I bought one on the way! Well the third night we split up and I sat on a game trail and did some calling .I was there about two hours kind of day dreaming and doing a little calling when mr big came down the trail so fast I couldn't even get my release on and he was 7 yards in front and realy looking like he wanted to kick my butt! We had a stand off for what felt like a hour but was probaly 10 seconds and he bolted behind a spruce tree at 30 yards and stood there and looked at me in full draw but he was safe behind that spruce. I never did get a shot which is typical with archery, the hardest thing is drawing your bow. The flat land Saskatchewan guy who never seen a bull elk outside a fence before got the full dose of excitment. But in the end there is no meat! LOL My buddy asked how many points and I couldn't even say All I knew was they were almost black with Ivory tips. hahah

That's hunting, the more thrill the better the hunt even if you don't tag out.
