Ok well the sask goverment has forced me to use this size with the break away for quite a few years now and I am sick of them! I never stretch the size rule and try to follow my permit specs close but I actually loose a percentage of my coyotes in a year and I think it is unnessesary . They work good in ideal weather conditions but every time we have a wind [like every second day] or any amount of snow there is going to be a high percentage of broken ones. they told me once that if I wanted to make my own break aways I ould but would have to submit some for test to make sure they broke ant 250lbs The snares break from the trigger on the dog rubbing the snare and breaking it. There is only 7 wires! Any thoughts on a snare I could make that would fit this criteria? Don't get me wrong I have caught hundreds with the 1/7 but years when I only get a couple weeks to trap every lose hurts. And besides I only know or two time that a snare broke at the brek away furrell , one to a moose and one to a deer. I know they don't always break for deer also. Sorry for the rant but the wife wasnt listening so I had to tell some one. LoL

Is there any way you could use a siniker break away s hook, I was thinkin inline on your snare so you would nead a 2 peace snare. I dont know how that would work on a ram but it might be some were to start.

You know after writing that post I got to thinking about that and realized that my permit says 6/64 cable. I think they make it in a 1x19 also. I wonder if it has a higher breaking point? I also wunder if using a die grinder with A wire wheel on it to totally round off the trigger would help?Just a couple of ideas I came up with today. Going to try one tomorrow.

I don't think 6/64 is a common cable size,, i use 5 /64
