Say your setting marten traps on a logging road is there a way to mark your sets that don't alert others.

For martin boxs on loggin roads I usualy just mark down the KM they are at and after a check or two I have them memorised. Another trick I use for markin snares and sets is a cloths pin, I paint them floresent orange in the summer and let them air our all year then just put them up above your set, critters dont seam to mind and they are eazy to see.

I mark my set locations along roads with three ribbon colours with orange ribbon denoting the trap is set. I take it down when I pull the trap. Most of the time there is snow on the ground and your tracks going into and out of the location gives it away for anyone who is half intelligent IMO. So why worry about it the flagging is basically for your own idetification of location and knowing if it is set or the trap has been pulled. With regard to snares I use blaze orange coloured cloths pins 'like fuzz, clipped to a limb above the snare. When the snare is disabled I clip the cloths pin to the snare support.

Like Tom says when there's snow on the ground its a give away. I have at times drove the ski-doo as close to the edge of the woods as possible checked the set and made a turn and went back the way i come a 100 yards or so and turned around again to make it look like i was playing around, You can also set a snare to keep peoples eyes off you marten sets . Now i try to stay away from people.Good luck.

When setting up new ground for marten if it is on a main road what i do is put a blaze on a tree on the opposite side of the road that the marten box is on. A ribbon is a dead give away. But when the snow comes it does not matter as like white said your tracks give it all away. On my bike trails i will use a ribbon if setting new boxes. After time you will know where all boxes are and never need a ribbon or refresh your blaze.

I have started using tree marking paint, works well I just make a red circle on the tree. On my line lots of trees are marked with paint, most people do not even look twice. The problem I had with tape was it falling down, then I end up wasting time looking for the exact set location. Jim
