With fur prices higher than they been for years, , is there anything you will be doing different for next season.

It is funny that you ask this question because I have already been analyzing what I did this past year to see where I can expand my catch rate and reduce expenses. For me, based on populations of fur bearers and available land to trap, Coons will be where the most money is for me. Any other critters would be basically iceing on the cake. I am comtemplating the purchase of a boat so that I can run a trap line on the lake shore. The lake is 5000 acres, so there is a lot of shore line, much of which is not accessible except by boat or walking more than a mile. Who wants to cary 4-5 coons a mile or more. Not me. The next thing, the lake is public land, so I would have to change over from buckets to DP's to better hide the sets and catches from view from the water. And lastly, I need to purchase a small truck to greatly reduce my fuel expenses and save the wear and tear on my dually. All are doable. I will purcahse the truck this spring, I need it anyway. As far as the boat and additional traps, I will wait till after the next NAFA sale to see how the prices hold. Guess you could say my mind is not made up just yet.

For me after not bein able to trap much at all this year I was already plannin on runnin the longest line yet and trappin harder than ever. The fur prices are just a bonus for me, a realy nice one I might add. Like SS I have bean thinkin of findin an old small truck that is good on fuel for trappin to, but have to wait for a realy good deal on one.

Well i never trapped very much in the last 2 seasons,so i got the fever really bad. Thinking about getting back to the line and staying the winter,,oh ya,, Scout out a bunch of beaver, run a line of fox traps ,our foxes in the north here have weird colors some pay some don't. Make some lynx cubbys, get a few baits working, while waiting for marten season and just have fun.

I will be trapping the East side of my line next year. So that means 75 or so new marten boxes to go out, 30 or so new mink boxes, new lynx snare pens......etc. I have a loooong list of stuff to get done before next year rolls around. Thats why I'm already started on some of the chores.
I have high hopes for next year, not because of the price of fur currently (because we know that can all change in a flash) but because I will have a camp built. That will allow me ot get a little more serious about this and do things more thoroughly and efficiently.

This summer i have many new trails to check out and clean up. I can already see that there will have to be 2 bridges that will have to be built as well as many marten boxes built. Have already started making some new beaver boards and will make a bunch more stretchers for all the other critters.New traps will be in order so will have to sit down and figure out how many. Busy off season but thats what we all enjoy.

For me it will be an all out effort but nothing to do with prices. About half of each of our lines I have only seen from Google Earth so going to scout that out.
My "to do" is way to long for one old guy.
