Spent the weekend up at camp with my wife and brother cutting wood. At noon my wife and I went for a drive to Nevertouch Lake to have a look around and enjoy the afternoon. My brother stayed at camp and went in for a nap. He got up and went to the outhouse, he noticed one of the three big chairs at the fire pit was tipped over. Thought hmmm must have had a good wind while napping. He came out of the out house and there in front of him about 15 yards away was a big Grizz looking at him. He gave a yell but the bear just stood there looking at him. The bear had knocked over the hot water pot and tore the grate off of the campfire, which was still smouldering I might add. Anyway he picked up the lid and pot and banged them together and the bear took off on the run.
Meanwhile we returned back to camp and he told us the story. I was packing up the truck and busying myself getting ready to leave. My brother sitting by the fire got my attention "he's back". Yup just about 50 yards away he stood looking at us. I seldom take a rifle with me this time of year but something in the back of my mind said take the rifle. Anyway I got out the rifle, loaded it, and let go with a round right in front of his front feet. He almost turned inside out getting out of there. A very good sized grizzly. Hope that instilled some fear in him.
It was not his first visit. When we arrived my outside wash basin was on the ground with teeth marks in it and a hole in the side if it.
I sure wish I had taken a picture but my first thought was show him he's not welcome. We make a great effort to not leave anything around that would attract bears. Only other evidence of bears at camp was a couple of years ago I put up a bird feeder and a bear decided to eat it.
