Why Ship to NAFA?
August 26, 2013
As the summer comes to a close and thoughts are turning towards the new selling season, we thought it would be a good time to review the advantages of selling through NAFA’s Toronto auction facility.
NAFA’s proven track record in establishing the highest prices.
NAFA’s selling location in Toronto is recognized by the entire fur trade to be best and most convenient in the world. Located 5 minutes from Toronto’s international airport, there are regular direct, non-stop flights from all the major Chinese and Asian cities, as well as from Europe and Russia. There are 12 hotels within walking distance of our auction house, offering over 4,000 guest rooms. There is no other auction house in the world which offers this huge convenience to their customers.
Attracting the largest number of international buyers for wild fur. We had over 700 buyers at both our 2013 auctions.
NAFA’s wild fur shippers, through their membership in the Wild Fur Shippers Council are a major shareholder of NAFA.
NAFA has the lowest commission through our profit sharing rebate system for NAFA WFSC members. To become a member of the NAFA WFSC you simply invest $100 and this in turn entitles the member to a 2% commission reduction, and the elimination of the per skin freight charge, all for 5 years ($20 per year). On top of this, the NAFA WFSC member is entitled to a profit sharing rebate paid out annually. We are proud to announce that this year’s profit sharing rebate will be a record 5%, up from 4.75 last year. Your net commission this year amounted to 4%, which includes the promotional fee and monies paid to trapper organizations.
To put this in perspective, with your WFSC membership, free freight, 2% commission reduction and 5% profit sharing rebate, you need only ship in excess of $200 worth of furs to break even.
NAFA’s promotional work worldwide continues to create demand for wild fur. We are the only auction company that has put millions of dollars into protecting the future of wild fur. Our promotional program is completely funded by NAFA by way of a 1.5% contribution. On top of this standard 1.5% promotional contribution, the NAFA WFSC have also put additional funds into special promotional programs such as providing dressing expertise to Chinese dressers, the Northern Lights raccoon promotion….
NAFA is the largest wild fur auction house in the world, which is a tremendous advantage to the international buyer, especially the Chinese, Russian and Greeks. Our large volumes allow our grading technicians to put your furs into large strings of the same size, quality and colour. For example, in the raccoons we put up 8 difference hair types from a very heavy underwool to a flatter skin and separate the Eastern darker sections from the Western paler sections, after which they are coloured into 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, 1 being the clearest and 5 the more off-colour. This same grading system is basically used for all wild fur articles. These large, uniform strings are very attractive to the larger Chinese manufacturers who need to buy in bulk to satisfy their production lines and retail customers. For many Chinese manufacturers, if they cannot buy quantity in a particular article, they will not buy at all. This is especially true for trimming articles.
The international fur market expects another excellent retail season. All indications are that you again will have a wild fur season that will put a smile on your face. We at NAFA are ready to be your partner for another successful selling season.
