Today feeling almost 100%. Went to check on those two sets yesterday. Run into 3 Timberwolves at my first beaver set. Before I could get out with the 22 mag they were gone down the road. this was what they were after. Much later I would have had nothing for sure. Unloaded the bike and headed down the road for about 3 miles till the next set up. The wolves ran the road for just over a mile before hitting the bush. A few tracks from those beggers. This is the next set up. Two beaver spots on both sides of the road. the other side of road. On this side I did not walk through the bush to the dam to set as it was way to difficult. Made two scent sets and both were froze in. on the other side I had this beaver that was caught by the tail this beaver was 25 feet away in the next set on the dam. This beaver did things right. Two off the dam. Both openings were plugged, so that is enough for now and will return to open in a few weeks for otter. bike loaded with three big beaver headed out. Prebaited marten boxes on the way out.

Tough luck on the wolves. Pretty cool ride on the bike these past few mornings i would imagine.
The wolves dont usually stick around long when a 4 wheeler shows up, have you ever managed to shoot one while out trapping?

Last year I shot one when I was on my line. He was walking down the road towards my truck. Got out and waited till he turned to go into the bush and popped him.

Dave and his friend and I went to camp Friday to set up Basket lake for beaver before freeze up. Saturday was blowing snow and high winds, not a good day to be out setting. This morning we went and lifted the traps. Picked up 6 beaver off the lake and another one along the road. Left in a few sets by cabin as I have to go back out for my bike. Seems my trailer had a broken leaf hanger. this morning bright and early before the winds got up. first chore was to run one of the rivers that flow into Basket lake for swamp donkey. No luck as I think the blowing snow from the night made them go deeper into the bush. first beaver house 2nd house 3rd house, only one and the 4th house only had one 6 in the boat and headed back to shore. headed home scent set along road and river. one tired Son. He did all the leg work and I just stayed in the boat. Practice makes perfect I kept telling him.

Yesterday put all the beaver on the boards from the weekend. Up at 4.00am this morning, could not sleep. Went to the south line to set up for beaver. Big disappointment as hard water is everywhere. Not thick enough to walk on and thin enough to throw me off. I did mange two sets off dams that I opened. Then headed back out to my Basket line to set a few otter sets under the ice off dams. Tomorrow is another board beaver day and then back to check on Friday. The temps are to be warmer in the next few days so hoping to still get in a few open water sets if possible. But first thing in morning have to go look for a doe that left my yard in a hurry tonight.

Hope that doe didn't go to far. Great job on the beaver. Can't wait for the pics! Do you nail your beaver or use a electric stapler? Can you post a couple pics of boarded one I can use all the tips I can get.

Was back out today on the Basket line. 2 beaver through the ice on channel sets from the house and two traps stolen from the river that runs along side the road. $70 bucks gone. I did pick up one mink in the only mink set I have out. Both will go large Little female mink. Fur is not yet there but soon. Yes oldyote will take some pics for you of my beaver put up. Don't recommend staples as fur graders are getting very peed off with cutting their fingers on staples that have not been pulled out. Peeded off fur grader results in poor grade over time. Staples are the lazy way.

Lots of white on that mink, pretty cool.
Too bad about the stolen traps. I came up missing a 330 duke today also...not $70 but still pisses me right off.

Looks like your off to a great start on that water fur. Yeah our western mink are later primers than the eastern. Usually good about the 10th to 15th in Western Canada.
