4 rats, one mink, one marten, one beaver and one beaver eaten by otters does not a happy trapper make.. I watched 2 otter cross at this spot last week so I set it up. Apparently a beaver beat them to it. I put the trap back and left the beaver there. Hopefully they comeback for more. Water is really high. We need a deep freeze to slow the runoff down a bit. Oh well, I got a bunch more traps and snares out while checking empty ones. There is always next week.

That Is a dandy. Hope he isn't too scared up. Lots of my extra large are battle scarred. I noticed a few crescent moon scars on the big ones when skiinning. One each at most though......... A few of these suckers too. If they paid good i would be in business...........I wonder how they would work in the back of a lynx cubbie........

That's my so bad for wounds. I had a couple that the scars where just heled so when I skinned them they opened up again no matter how gentle I tried to be. Pretty much covered in bites. Hope you catch the otter! Is it common for them to eat trapped beaver.?

That's my so bad for wounds. I had a couple that the scars where just heled so when I skinned them they opened up again no matter how gentle I tried to be. Pretty much covered in bites. Hope you catch the otter! Is it common for them to eat trapped beaver.? I boarded most of those rats today and one of the large ones was a warrior for sure but the other ones all looked good. I haven't been doing this long enough to say wether its common for the otter to eat a trapped beaver. If I had to guess I would say its not common. I have had beavers dead in a trap with otter tracks going right over it before and no problems?? The marten was pure luck too. I was walking into a mink box when I seen the movement at my 220 fisher box. I figured I had him by a foot or something so I carried on to check the mink box. When I returned to the marten I realized he wasn't even caught in the trap, just stunned from getting whacked by the 220. I quickly put a foot on him and dispatched him. If I had checked some other traps first he may not have been there at all.

Load the truck tonight with a bunch more bait. My Dad is meeting me at my house tomorrow, my daughter is coming too.
3 generations on the trap-line for the weekend. Should be fun if not productive.
I wanted to pound in a few more sets but that may not happen.

14°C and rain today at the line. What a joke. I checked traps this morning and brought everything home to skin. Hopefully I don't catch anything tonight as its supposed to be mild tomorrow too. Got a bit of vindication for those otters chewing up a nice beaver. Caught a nice fisher in one of the cone style sets I have been trying out. Had 2 doubles on fox and a single. Couple more mink. 2nd or 3rd one in this location. Picked up another mink and another otter after this pic.

Wow! Excellent job. You are realy catching them this year. To bad about the marten situation on your line but reds are pretty easy to put up.

Wow! Excellent job. You are realy catching them this year. To bad about the marten situation on your line but reds are pretty easy to put up. I normally do a good job on reds when putting them up but not tonight. Ripped one a bit on a hind leg, sewed it up, looks fine. Another I tore the head clean off the pelt. Right where the snare mark was just behind the ears it tore.......%@#&! I skinned the head out too and i think I will franken-fox him back together.

For the price of them it will be worth it. Ya I only get a couple fox a year and I have to make a special effort to SLOW down on them papery little buggers! Glad I am not the only one who has the odd blunder.
