Well here we go again. I'm not really trapping yet this season, still getting stuff ready. This summer I got a bit of work done on the camp. The walleye fishing was too good to pass up most weekends ;D. Plus being pretty busy at home and work I tried to make camp a fun work free place for the summer. My sister scored me a really good deal on a 5gal pail of paint. She said its "Brown" so I said go for it. I got the camp painted but it turns out a womens idea of "Brown" isnt the same as a mans. Looks more like "Mocha Latte" to me.... ;D I also got the interior paneling completed (need to finish ceiling yet). I found a guy selling 4x8 sheets of fiberboard for $2 per sheet. Some of it has tire tracks on it from being a temporary floor in the arena but I dont care. I also finally settled on a quick marten setup to use this year in new sections of my line. hopefully these work out. Any places that produce fur will get permanent boxes next year. I will put the triggers in a L I'm heading to camp for some beaver tomorrow. I wanted to take my daughter but I think 5 days of "go-go-go" beaver trapping might be to much for her. I hope to get her out soon though.

That is a very " modern" colour ! Looks like a house on snob hill. Looks good none the less! Can't wait for the beaver pics.

Caught a few beaver, shot some birds, came home early before the pelts rotted. Way too hot!Is this October? Actually managed a few rats...not bad considering I wasnt entirely convinced there were even rats around. I will be making some more of those basket style cage traps. More beavers, more rats. I was keeping some buckets of grouse scraps and beaver guts to add to my bait piles but I ended up with skunks one night and a bear the next. Built a meat pole to hang stuff up so I could get some sleep. The bear was a little wee sow. The same one that I saw a few weeks a go with here tiny cub. The cub was only the size of a big raccoon but he wasnt around. I cant imagine any one shot it? Who knows. I'm going to have to get a freezer to leave at camp for this type of thing.

How do your beaver look? Mine are really nice so far for this time of year. Glad to here Matt stopped by for a visit. You know that bait hanging pole can also be used for moose....lol....just to inform you. Hint hint.

I hate to complain about the hot weather while sitting in my lawn chair in a t-shirt and sipping a beer with this view. ;D On a break from beaver skinning of course.

That is just disgusting looking at all that rich fur ground drinking a beer. Should of had a rum . Very nice country setting Greg.

That's when I try and start on. Weather plays a big part on when I set. If the temps don't come up above freezing then should be safe to set. Hate to get green bellies and fox can get it so quick.

Ok, thanks. How early is too early to start with marten traps? I have a helper that is available to come next weeknd (26th of Oct) to the line with me......I'm thinking thats too early. Maybe we could just wire off and hang the marten traps, then I could put them in the boxes the next weekend? Maybe clean up a few beavers too. I hate to pass up the help because I'm pretty well solo after that.

Well Greg the 26th is a bit early especially in your area, but you could hang your traps and pre bait so that they will have a week to get a chance to seek out your boxes.
