A nice CLEAN piece of basswood imo. I have some wood stretchers that have knots at the most inopportune spots, usually right where I want to push a pin.

I have made them from cedar spruce- pine -popular cedar is the softest for putting the push pins in.

Interesting that cedar is getting so many thumbs up. I haven't seen any cedar stretchers for sale from the major suppliers that I can remember. I bet it is good stretcher material, may have to check into that.

Yeah, people around here use it to trim windows and high end privacy fences. Western Ks folks use some cedar fence post too. I never made the connection that it would make good stretchin boards. This would be a great place for a "duh" smiley!

It is good stuff if you get a good board. I don't make my own stretchers or I would put the knots up toward the head where there is not likely to be as much pinning going on. I am getting along with them pretty well though.

Nice work. I would love to make some out of cedar, but I cannot find the boards wide enough. Having said that, do you think that if I glued two boards together for width it would hold, say with biscuit joints?
