Well, its that time again so here we go!
I took a few days off to head to the line to try and get the better part of the beaver quota caught and at the same time fill my winter bait needs. Pretty much 30mph winds and rain the entire trip. Pretty miserable actually.
Hopefully its the last year we need to use this setup for fall trapping as I hope to build a new camp in the spring.
The beavers are really starting to cut into our trapline access. Between the traps and my .22lr I think we got these guys cleaned out but with all the feed around I'm sure there is a lineup of bucktooth critters waiting to set up shop here.
Their feed pile..........ambitious critters. Plus they have at least 50 10" poplars felled into the water they can access once freeze up comes.
This next spot has been flooded for years according to the former 01. Probably impossible to get this dry again unless the loggers raise the grade. It has a nice gravel bottom so its really no problem to cross, barely over the tires at its deepest. Hard to tell it was a road at one point.
Couple of sets and results.
I dont like it when they get this far in a trap but its a fur suitcase made to order.
Had to pry the stick out of this guys jaws after the330 tried to make it a permanent connection..
A little scenery
Beaver looked pretty well furred for this time of year, and I cant complain about our catch. We only had 2 small ones in the bunch and several in the 50-60lb range. that should help with the sale average. They are all skinned and castors out. The carcasses are in the freezer and the hides are too. i will pull them out at a later date when time and toddler allows to finish up.
I have plans for some more beaver once we get enough ice to travel on but thats it for now. I have some nuisance beavers to get around home starting tommorow, we will see if I can remember the camera.
Now its wait for deer season in November, start k-9 bait piles after that, and then the main line goes out on the 26th of Nov.............Hurry up and wait.
